Introducing Goscelin – The Scribe

I am Goscelin, the scribe, keeper and guardian of sacred wisdom…

In the story of Ink and Honey Goscelin, the Scribe of Belle Coeur, learns her craft of scribing when she is mentored by a kind old monk. In time, she becomes an astute observer of the nuances of her daily life. She learns to experience life through her senses as the scribe of her sisterhood’s journal,  an illuminated manuscript, .

The collaged card featured here created by artist, Judy Alkema, for the Belle Coeur Wisdom Pacquet, is a portrait of Goscelin and her symbols. Her invitation that accompanies this card in the Wisdom Pacquet Guidebook, offers inspiration for Soulful Scribes.

Goscelin, the scribe, invites you to be aware of your surroundings. Her message is, “Observe and bear witness to the Divine Presence within ordinary reality. Pay attention to the symbols that appear and reappear to inform your wisdom.”

Think of your journal as a sacred container, your illuminated manuscript, to hold your impressions, discoveries, questions and stories. Goscelin expresses authentic truth through her meticulous record keeping.

Goscelin invites you to create your sacred space and to gather your favorite writing tools and journal. Soulful scribing is a triune process. Contemplate what you’ve observed as you’ve gone about your day. Reflect, as you scribe your insights and respond through further creative expression or conscious action.

Call upon the spirit of Goscelin as your muse whenever you are in need of inspiration. She represents the feminine lineage, the sisterhood of scribes that circles back through time.

Thinking of the newly emerged luna moth I saw this morning, like Goscelin on her way to Belle Coeur, I too, “am a pilgrim journeying into the unknown.” I appreciate the opportunity to make the journey with others here at this precise point in my life. Thank you.
